KosherKocktails: Transition into Fall With Our "Smoky Autumn"

Welcome to the transitional season -- that time of year when you don't know quite what to wear, let alone what to drink. Is it too late for Gin & Tonic? Too early for a Hot Toddy? White, or red?! To help you out, we've created a transitional cocktail -- one that combines the tropical coconut flavors of summer with fall’s essential flavor, cinnamon. Enjoy "Smoky Autumn" as it blends the seasons and warms your heart. (We even have a fiery version for those who like to burn leaves. See note below.)

Per drink:

1.5 oz gin
1.5 oz coconut milk
1-2 dashes Dram black bitters
Fresh juice of half a lime
0.5 oz cinnamon syrup (Recipe)
One anise star for garnish
Ground cinnamon for garnish
Cinnamon stick for garnish.

Combine the gin, coconut milk, cinnamon syrup, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker. Fill your cocktail shaker with ice half-way and shake vigorously for ten seconds. Strain into a small tumbler glass filled with crushed ice.  Apply Dram black bitters over the strained cocktail, dust with cinnamon, and add cinnamon stick and anise star to your drink.

NOTE: For an extra smoky flavor, be sure to blow torch a broken cinnamon stick over a cedar plank. Once the cinnamon is charred, blow out the flame and turn your tumbler glass around, allowing the smoke to fill the glass, giving your cocktail a nice smoky touch.
